Alternatives.pe is a B2B data platform for private market intelligence across Southeast Asia and Australia — covering VC, PE, funds, deals, capital allocators, and the people behind them.

What it does

The platform gives investment professionals structured, searchable access to private market data: funds, deals, investors, legal entities, and market events. Data is surfaced through filterable explorer views and detailed profile pages.

Stack

Python/Django REST API, Next.js frontend, PostgreSQL, Redis, deployed on AWS ECS. Authentication and subscription management handled by third-party services integrated into both layers.

Agent orchestration

AI agent workflows handle parts of the data pipeline — coordinating ingestion, enrichment, and validation tasks.

My role

I’m CTO. That means owning the architecture end-to-end — from data model design to infrastructure decisions to deployment pipelines. I stay hands-on in the codebase across both the Python/Django backend and the Next.js frontend; I’m not a CTO who stopped coding.

I manage a small engineering team: hiring, onboarding, code review, setting technical direction, and keeping delivery moving without unnecessary process. I make the calls on when to build vs. buy, how to structure the data layer for performance at scale, and how to keep the system maintainable as the team and product grow.

We’re also on a deliberate path to becoming an AI-native engineering organization — embedding AI tooling into how we build, not just what we build.
