Preparing for ThermostatPi - a Raspberry Pi controlled thermostat

I am starting to prepare for my next Raspberry Pi project - I’m giving it the very unoriginal name of “ThermostatPi” - essentially it will be a Raspberry Pi Thermostat. There are many of these types of projects I’ve found on the net, but I haven’t yet found one that will do exactly what I want. You see, many of the projects out there use simple SSR (solid state relays) to turn on/off a central boiler.

A super expensive 32GB SD Card

This is interesting. I am putting in another order for a couple of Raspberry Pi’s (a few colleagues want one too), and I figured it may make sense to bundle a few other items from the online store I’m shopping at. They’re (Element 14 Singapore) selling a Sandisk 32GB Ultra for S$242.47. Interesting because I just bought one this past weekend for S$44. Who’s buying this?gi

Playing with the Raspberry Pi - Work Project

I’ve been wanting to do a hardware project for a while. After all, I like to tinker. Remember, I built my own spelunking headlamp out of fairly high powered LEDs. (Shame I don’t have photos… this was 2001/2, no cameras in those days I guess). At work, we have a lot of servers and I thought it would be cool to do a hardware project that would be useful for one of my daily tasks - ensuring our systems are up and running (a responsibility I share with a few others at my company).

Welcome (back) to Blogger

I had a blogger account way back when. I switch to Moveable Type, then to Wordpress. And now I’m back. Why? Because I don’t want to deal with hosting anymore. Wordpress vulnerabilities. etc etc. So, for the time being, I have moved my old blog from www.cdrum.com to old.cdrum.com. I need to work out how to migrate everything to blogger (images and all). But until then, you just get new stuff here.

Tons of Carbs and an Amazing Burger

I am recovering from a carb overload from my cheat day yesterday. Started off with a normal boreing healthy breakfast. Moved onto lunch where i had pontian wonton noodles. Devilish. Carb heaven - fried wonton noodles - cheat day! For dinner, we went to a restaurant called db Bistro Moderne Singapore, at the Marina Bay Sands to celebrate a friend’s Birthday. The restaurant, part of the Daniel Boulud empire, specializes in burgers.
