Google Maps blocked in China?!

Contents

Well, sort of - it looks as if either there is a “technical glitch” only affecting China, or the satellite imagery servers for maps.google.com have been blocked. Note: A friend of mine in Singapore says it works fine. https://cdrumblog.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/08/googlemaps.png Here’s a screen shot of google maps attempting to look at New York City. As you can see, I’m not zoomed in too far - on the contrary, I am zoomed quite a bit out. Its complaining they don’t have detail level for this area. The Maps, however, work fine. It looks as if the satellite imagery is hosted on servers kh#.google.com, presumably kh standing for “keyhole”. So, could this mean Google Earth also doesn’t work?! I hope this is merely a geographically-isolated “glitch” and we’ll be back to snooping at people’s backyards in no time. I hope… Can anyone else confirm this?
