I was almost a victim of Road Rage yesterday, Sunday. My girlfriend and I were mind our own business riding around the streets of Beijing in my motorbike in the afternoon. I was stuck in a lane with a bunch of cars, but the lane next to mine was empty. I made the quick decision to switch lanes (to my right), while doing this, i noticed a car right behind me was also making the same move. While completing the manuever, I heard a beep, presumibly from the car behind me - maybe I cut him off a little - but this is normal practice driving in Beijing. Eventually, I was stopped at the traffic light for a few seconds, upon green, I went through the intersection. After a little bit, I heard a beep, my girlfriend looked back and thought it was a mercedes, but i think it was that guy in a silver sedan, probably japanese. He was foreign, had foreign plates. After hearing the beep, Melanie told me to take my time - i.e. slow it down a bit, piss him off. I did what I usually don’t do, and let someone switch into my lane in front of me. I heard a beep. At the next opportunity the driver had, he passed me on my right. I saw his face, seemed he was yelling something. I held up my hand, giving him a sort-of one finger salute - i had my gloves on, so it wasn’t as noticeable as it would have been had I been bare-handed. I think he saw this, and boy, did it tick him off. He swerved in front of me, and stopped. I stopped behind him for a few seconds. I became concerned at this point. His door began to open. I thought to my self, “the hell am i sticking around for this”, i bolted into the next lane to pass him. He sped up, swerved into a bit of my lane - yelling some profanity (presumibly) - I slow down and make for the next right turn possible, he continues to drive away. I am not sure what was up this assholes’ butt, but jeez… relax. I am a considerably better and _nicer_ driver than most Chinese on the road. I can’t imagine what he does if a taxi driver cuts him off.
