Colleague Farewell Goes Wrong
Last night, we had a company dinner to bid farewell to our colleague Mr. Stuck-up Brit. We went to a Hot-pot restaurant near the office. Had a few beers and lots of food. Our boss brought a bottle of whiskey (which oddly looked incredibly similar to the bottle I brought to him when I returned from my trip to Budapest in January of this year) and insisted that Mr. Stuck-up Brit have a shot with someone different each time. I had one, he had many many many - as well as beer and plenty of something called Er Guo Tuo (bai jiu, a Chinese clear liquor that tastes pretty close to pure ethanol). Eventually we left the restaurant around 10/10:30. Most everyone went home, but a group of 8 of us planned on going to Karaoke. Brit and Milky Cheese got in one cab, and I got in one cab with 2 others, and the others planned to met us there.. On the way, (not soon after we entered the cab, apparently Brit went a bit nuts and broke the protecting screen that divides the cab driver’s area from the rest of the cab. The cab driver apparently didn’t like that, he stopped, got out, and began to get unhappy. We (in my cab) noticed this, stopped the cab, I got out to see what was going on (I thought he had to relieve himself in the cab, but apparently not). The two colleagues I was with in my cab eventually left to go to the karaoke place and Milkey Cheese and I spent the next hour and a half or so trying to calm Brit down on the side of the road. An hour and a half of arguing, wrestling, dodging punches, and trying to get into to other cabs. Eventual he calmed down enough for us to find a cab driver willing to take us - went straight to his home. When we arrived in front of his estate, apparently he didn’t realize we were at his place (saying “where are we? I want to go home…”) and eventually wrestled me into the bushes. We eventually got him to his place and left. Milkey Cheese and I met the others at the Karaoke place. I sang three songs and left by 1. Kind of an interesting evening, but don’t want to have to do that very often. My cab driver today (on the way to work) was shaving using an electric shaver while stopped at traffic lights.
